I'm Another Year Older

I got another year older recently, which I'm not too thrilled about, but the day itself was wonderful. I haven't had such a good birthday in a long time. I slept in, and when I woke up, I was greeted with the biggest breakfast courtesy of my sweet husband. I got a card and money (which I promptly spent on clothes), as well as roses and a balloon the night before. Yes, it's good to feel loved on your birthday.

We met up with my brother and a friend and headed to the lake for some time on the water. And the shore, of course. Those kids can't stay away from sand no matter where they go. It's funner for them than the water. The next day after church we got to enjoy the delicious cake my mom made for me, and spent more time with family. That's my little little brother (versus my big little brother) with all the grandchildren.

So I guess getting older is inevitable, but there's also joy in it, just for the fact that you made it another year on this earth. I honestly felt so much joy and gratitude that day. I was floating on the lake on my mattress, still and quiet, trailing my hands in the water, and just watched the kids playing in the water and my husband on the shore. And I felt so grateful to God for giving them to me, for entrusting me with raising them and teaching them and bringing them up to serve Him. It's such a big job, and sometimes I get scared that I'm not good enough, that I'm messing them up already. But then I renew my strength and do the best I can. And I pray. My life at 28 is a blessed one, despite the hard times I've been through, and I know this next year will be a good one--I can feel it.
